This year's Chinese Grand Prix commenced on Friday with the usual free practice rounds. The technical updates the MERCEDES GP PETRONAS engineers brought to the W02 single-seater have proven to be successful and provided a good pace throughout the two sessions. The aim was focusing on evaluating the new aerodynamical components in addition to testing and assessing different sets of tyres and multiple set-ups for a better race preparation. At the end of the day, Nico's fastest time was 1m37.943s which sent him straight to P4, whereas Michael managed a top time of 1m38.105s and was classified fifth in the overall standings.
